What is the adoption process?
Please refer to our Adopt page for details on the adoption process.
What are your adoption fees?
Our adoption fees vary by horse and typically range from $500 to $3500. This fee is often far less than what the cost of buying a thoroughbred straight from the racetrack would cost. Adoption fees help recoup the cost of the horse being in our program (this includes alfalfa, grain, veterinarian care, farrier care, and training) and allows us to to continue to care for horses that are with us a little longer and the ones we bring in once one leaves.
Are your horses beginner/kid/novice friendly?
On a rare (and we mean HIGHLY rare) occasion, we may acquire a horse that is suitable for a beginner/novice or a child, but that is NOT the norm. Our horses are coming to us straight from racing/race training and will require, at the least, an intermediate rider working with a trainer, depending on the horse. They are considered green broke and generally come to us with no post-track/pleasure type rides.
Do you hold horses?
Unfortunately we are not able to hold horses. We encourage potential adopters to have an approved application on file, as they are good for one calendar year. This allows the potential adopter to schedule a visit as soon as they see a horse they are interested in and they do not have to wait for their application to be approved.
Do you allow a pre-purchase exam?
Yes, pre-purchase exams are always welcomed at the expense of the potential adopter.
Do you adopt out of state?
Yes, we do adopt out of state. While we would love for every potential adopter to be able to personally come meet the horse they are interested in, we understand that is not always possible and a virtual appointment may be scheduled - but this is done on a case by case basis. If a virtual appointment is scheduled, we do ask that the potential adopter submit recent videos of themselves riding and working with horses on the ground to help our trainer determine if the horse you are interested in would be a good fit.
How can I donate a horse?
Remember Me accepts Thoroughbred mares and geldings. If you are interested in donating a colt, you would need to speak with directly with our Director to see if we would be able to accommodate recovery from castration as we do not have intact horses in our adoption program. You can find more details on the Donate page and our Horse Donation Form on the Forms page.
Am I able to return my horse?
Yes, per our adoption contract, the horse can be returned to Remember Me at any time. We do ask that you reach out to see if there is any possibility we can help you work through whatever challenge you might be facing with your horse, and if that is unsuccessful, we will make arrangements for the horse to come back to our care. Please note that there is a $500 fee that is incurred by the adopter should the horse need to be returned. Please see the Horse Return Form on the Forms page if needed.
